Today’s Digital Dozen re-creation is a twofer! I was trying to figure out how I could honor two ladies at once, when I stumbled across Geeky Owl’s review of The Lacquerologist’s book! Aha, I thought to myself. Here’s Kirsten’s awesome and creative interpretation of a design by Emily. And so I set out to recreate the splash floral, using Kirsten’s color scheme and floral style.
Continuing with yesterday’s intention, I want to honor both Kirsten and Emily:
I love Kirsten’s unique style and geekiness – Geeky Owl is just plain fun and quirky, both traits I love about Kirsten. Her art is creative on another level, I can’t even explain it. When we did neon week, she came up with science-y neon ideas, rather than the color. SO freaking cool, I can’t even deal. She just thinks so outside of the box – which is really refreshing. Plus, we have a lot of interests in common (um, hello Dr. Who!). Plus plus, Kirsten knows how to do makeup and I want her to teach me her magic ways.
And what can I say about Emily? The Lacquerologist is a powerhouse blog, and Emily is the creative force behind it. As I mentioned above, she even wrote a book! I love her approachable style and her fun reviews (in addition to polish, she writes about other beauty things I love, like bath products), and I always want the pretty coffee beverages she posts on Instagram. I also love her dog, Bob!
There were a bunch of things I liked about Kirsten’s interpretation. First of all, I LOVE the colors she picked. I couldn’t find the right accent color – my turquoise wasn’t quite it. I think those colors paired together are really lovely. Secondly, I like how she made Emily’s design her own by stamping the floral and instead of free-handing it. I also like Emily’s whimsical floral freehand, but I decided to freehand the style of the stamp (since, you know, it’s me… and stamps…).
I used two coats of Loreal Greycian Goddess. For the splash, I used Essie Where’s My Chauffeur? Then I used black acrylic paint to copy the flower stamp Kirsten used. I top coated with Seche Vite. I really like how this came out, and I can’t wait to try a splash floral with Emily’s style of flower, too!
I am LOVING this week! Be sure to see some other cool re-creation manis!
