The Digital Dozen does Fairy Tale: Emperor's New Clothes French tips | The Dalai Lama's Nails

I had this idea for an Emperor’s New Clothes themed manicure, and I seriously tried it 4 times. It just did not want to cooperate! I decided to give it one last shot, by making it as minimalist and simple as possible, and I finally felt satisfied with the results (says a lot about life, eh?).

The Emperor’s New Clothes is a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, about a king who is deceived by two clever weavers. The weavers promise to make the emperor a fabulous new outfit, that will be invisible to those unworthy of it. When the emperor goes to put the outfit on – he can’t see it! But he can’t say anything, because that would mean that he’s unworthy. So, he parades all around in his invisible outfit, until a little kid exclaims, “But he isn’t wearing anything at all!”The Digital Dozen does Fairy Tale: Emperor's New Clothes French tips | The Dalai Lama's Nails

This is a very simple mani! Since the Emperor’s New Clothes ends up with a naked king strutting his stuff, I wanted the nail to be mostly bare. I thought that maybe the king was wearing royal underwear, and decided to paint my tips with some royal colors! I used:

  • OPI Swimsuit… Nailed It!
  • OPI Suzi & the Seven Dusseldorfs
  • Nina Ultra Pro Gladiator

I used Seche Vite to top coat, and that was it!

My nails are almost never this long, so I just had to take advantage of their length and do some pretty tips. I should do more French tips!!

Hope you’re enjoying all the wonderful fairy tales this week!

  • This is such a fun fairy tale – here in Holland we have an amusement park called De Efteling and it has something called Sprookjesbos. It’s basically all fairy tales build out of puppets and stuff, and they move and play out little scenes. The Emperors New Clothes is one of them!

  • Genius! I thought about somehow doing this fairytale too. You pulled it off perfectly!

  • Christine Chipman

This is sooooo elegant. I’m so jealous of the length of your nail beds, too, and the fact that you can leave your nails bare underneath the top coat. I’m hoping it won’t be too long before mine recover from the damage done by chemotherapy last year. But my nail beds are just so short compared to yours, and very slender as well. However, I’m come to realise that there are heaps of great designs people with small nails can do, so once my nails recover I might try something like this mani of yours then. Thanks for sharing.

    • The Dalai Lama’s Nails

      Hey Christine,
First of all – congrats on being done with chemo! I hope that you are well šŸ™‚ Thank you so much for your comment.
Secondly – there’s TONS of great nail art for small nails. I actually usually keep my nails much shorter than the length in this look šŸ™‚ Plus, lots of art can be adapted for small nails.
Thirdly – I’m not a doctor, so these ideas should be taken with a grain of salt. Cuticle oils and lotions can really help, and you may need to keep the nails trimmed fairly short until they are strong enough to grow out.

      • Christine Chipman

Thanks so much. I’m already using just about everything sort of cuticle oil and hand lotion, etc that I can lay my hands on, and I’m sure that is the only reason that they are starting to recover at all. I’ve detailed my recovery program on my blog, and hope that, if people start looking after their cuticles/nails BEFORE they start chemo, etc, they won’t experience the damage I got to my nails. I was just told to put dark nail polish on my nails to protect them from UV light and/or cover up any damage done. Everything else I went through is on my blog. Hopefully it will help others.
