What seems like forever ago, I bought a ton of random nail art supplies, including several little containers of gold leaf (and silver, copper, and some weird rainbowy metallic leaf). I’ve had this stuff for so long that I can’t even remember where I bought it! I have tried a bazillion times to use the gold leaf, but I can never figure out what to do with it. It’s very fiddly, and breaks apart easily – it was too trying to do a full nail look, but I thought it would look beautiful in pieces over a contrasting polish. Plus, it’s the last day of the Digital Dozen’s metal week – the perfect time to try new things! I figured it was now or never.
To get this look, I started by applying two coats of OPI Yoga-ta Get This Blue. It’s a stunning shade, and it looks kind of blue-purple under certain light, with a lovely shimmer. While my polish was still wet, I used a tiny dotting tool to tear of pieces of the gold leaf, and gently place the pieces on each nail. By the time I was finished placing the leaf, the polish was mostly dry, so I used my finger to lightly press down and smooth out the gold leaf pieces. I topped it with a coat of Sally Hansen Dries Instantly.
I can’t believe this week is over! I must say, I found metal to be a rather challenging theme. For some reason, I felt really stuck on metallic polish, though I am glad I was able to break away from the metallics.
